Abstract

PURPOSE: A resin dispersion with improved pigment dispersity, adhesion of coating films and resistance to chemicals, that contains a reaction product prepared by the copolymerization of (meth)acrylic esters and monomers containing glycidyl groups in the presence of oxides of polyolefin.
CONSTITUTION: The copolymerization of compounds of the formula (R is H, methyl; A is COOCnH2n+1 n is 6W20) and monomers bearing glycidyl groups such as glycidyl (meth)acrylate is conducted in the presence of an oxide on low- molecular-weight polyolefin with an average viscosity molecular weight of 500W5000 that is measured through the Ostwald method, a real density of 0.90W0.98 g/cm3. The resulting reaction product contains, besides the major reaction components homopolymers from each monomer, a variety of copolymer formed by side-reactions and the oxide of polyolefin. The compound of the formula is preferably the one whose homopolymer solvates with non-aqueous solvents.
