Abstract
PURPOSE: The titled composition having improved absorbability from the digestive organs, obtained by blending a certain cephalosporin type compound with a solid organic acid.
CONSTITUTION: Pivaloyloxymethyl 7β-[ 2-( 2-aminothiazole-4-yl )acetamido ]-3-{[ [ 1-(2-dimethylaminoethyl)-1H-tetrazole-5-yl ]thio]methyl}-ceph-3-em-4-carboxylate is blended with a solid organic acid(e.g., tartaric acid, citric acid) in one to five times moles of the carboxylate. The above-mentioned compound has more improved absorbability in oral administration than a corresponding free carboxylic acid compound, but it is not enough. The compound is abosrbed quickly from the digetive organs by the addition of the solid organic acid, and after absorption, the compound is hydrolyzed by enzymes in a living body, to give a corresponding free carboxylic acid compound, which exhibits antibacterial actions on Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and their resistant bacteria.
