Abstract

PURPOSE:To lessen the influence of an external magnetic field and to reduce the thickness of a sensor by detecting linear displacement between a couple of permanent magnets, facing mutually differing in the direction of magnetic poles, by a magnetic resistance element as variations in composite magnetic field. CONSTITUTION:The 1st permanent magnett 8 is fixed to an MR element 7 to apply a magnetic field in parallel to the magnetism-sensitive surface of the MR element 7, and the 2nd permanent magnet 9 is made to fact the 1st permanent magnet 8 differing in the direction of magnetic poles. As the interval between the magnets 8 and 9 is varied, the direction of a composite magnetic field applied to the MR element 7 varies, so the output voltage of the MR element 7 varies.
