Abstract

PURPOSE: To granulate a coal containing fine pulverized coal in water with a small amount of a binding oil at a low cost, by adding an oil as a binder and a specific polyoxyalkylene ether as a binding assistant to an aqueous slurry of the coal without emulsifying the oil.
CONSTITUTION: Preferably 0.01W1wt% polyoxylkylene ether nonionic surfactant, e.g. polyoxyethylene 2-ethylhexyl ether, of the formula (R1 is 8W18C aliphatic group; R2 is H or methyl; n is 3.5W15) as a binding assistant and an oil as a binder, e.g. heavy oil, in an amount of preferably 2W5wt% are added to an aqueous slurry of a coal containing fine pulverized coal, preferably with a coal content of 25W 50wt%, without emulsifying the oil, and the mixing operation is carried out to granulate the coal in water.
EFFECT: The granulated material having a minimal grain diameter of 2W3mm provides the easy recovery of the coal by a solid-liquid separator.
