Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate a stable biological disposal while maintaining the activity of bacteria at a fixed level, by interposing a membrane, through which bacteria can not permeate, between a disposal space where the bacteria exist and a liquid to be disposed, and permeating the liquid to be disposed through the membrane.
CONSTITUTION: A plurality of capillary membranes 10 are settled inside a casing 12 in a manner such that the membranes are fixed at their both ends by heads 11 and opened outside the heads 11, to form a membrane module. When a liquid 13 to be disposed is introduced into the tubular membranes of the module at a proper flow rate part of the liquid 13 permeates through the membranes due to a difference in the concentration of organic substances between inside and outside the membrane, and fed as a permeating liquid into a disposal space 14, i.e. a space outside the membranes. In the disposal space 14, bacteria 15 exist, and biodegradable organic substances in the permeating liquid are decomposed into lower molecular substances by the bacteria.
