Abstract
PURPOSE: To desalt a condensate while decreasing the amount of radioactive wastes generated, by a method wherein only an anion exchange resin is regenerated without regenerating a cation exchange resin, and a regenerating agent is recovered from a waste liquid of regeneration and is reused.
CONSTITUTION: The cation exchange resin is used in an amount corresponding to the useful life of the ion exchange resin in a nuclear power plant, with an extra amount used to cope with a leak of sea water. The cation exchange resin is not regenerated during the operation of the plant, and it is disposed as it is after the useful life thereof. On the other hand, the anion exchange resin (which must be used in a large amount if it is not regenerated during the operation) can be regenerated efficiently by a small amount of NaOH because of the excellent elutability of CO3 2-. To recover NaOH from the waste liquid of regeneration, NaOH is concentrated by electrodialysis and is utilized for the next-time regeneration. The waste liquid of regeneration from which NaOH has been recovered is condensed and then it is solidified with cement.
