Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the formation of a dog bone resulting from the cutting process, and to prevent the formation of a camber at practicing a horizontal rolling process, by cutting a recess previously formed in a hot slab with a roll provided with a V-shaped cutting edge. CONSTITUTION:A rolling roll 7, provided with an (h) high mountain shaped annular projection 8 centering at the roll axis, is driven to roll a slab 3 in the direction of its longitude in order to previously form a recess 9 in the slab surface. This preformed recess 9 is then cut by a cutting roll 10 provided with a V-shaped cutting edge 11. Hereby, the formation of a dog bone resulting from the swollen thickness due to the cutting process is perfectly prevented. The formation of the recess 9 may be practiced by changing the shape of a casting mold of a continuous casting machine, or by changing the shape of a pinch roll, other than the said rolling roll 7, or otherwise, it may be formed by a horizontal rolling process before the cutting process.
