Abstract

PURPOSE: To make an efficient use of energy in a blast furnace in which a large amount of water is used for cooling various parts of the blast furnace, by generating electricity by turning water turbines by use of waste water having potential energy that is used for cooling tha blast furnace.
CONSTITUTION: In a blast furnace 1, a large amount of water is used for cooling various parts of the furnace 1 in the manner of circulating water through the system. To a cooling stave 2 of the furnace 1, cooling water in a water reservoir 10 is supplied by a pump 3 and an intermediate pump 4. Here, such an arrangement is employed that waste water after use for cooling is dropped thorugh a penstock from a predetermined height for turning a water turbine 5 and hence a generator 6 connected to the turbine 5 and thereby generating electricity. On the othe hand, cooling water is also supplied to cooling boxes 11 from a water reservoir 16 by a high-pressure pump 17. The waste water after use for cooling is also dropped through a penstock via water outlet pipes 12aW12c disposed in three stages respectively at predetermined heights, whereby a water turbine 13 is turned for generating electricity by a generator 14 connected to the water turbine 13.
