Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a titled capturing agent which can adsorb and remove mercury ions of low concns. contained in water by consisting the same of the product of reaction of chlorodeoxycellulose and ethylene diamine or thioamide compound. CONSTITUTION:The above-described cellulose type mercury ion capturing agent is obtd. by causing known chlorodeoxycellulose powder to react with ethylene diamine or thioamide compound under heating in a water medium. This reaction is carried out usually at the b. p. of the water medium under atmospheric pressure and it is also possible to carry out this reaction at elevated temps. under pressure. For example, thiourea, thiosemicarbazide, etc. are enumerated as the thioamide compound. This mercyry ion capturing agent is produced easily and inexpensively. Further, post treatment can be performed by the simplest method of filtration and therefore this is utilized effectively for prevention of pollution by mercury ions.
