Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent destruction when a PROM writer is inserted reversely, by providing a circuit which detects whether a PROM is inserted into an IC socket normally or not and by varying an applied voltage on the basis of its detection output. CONSTITUTION:When a PROM1 is inserted reversely into an IC socket, a voltage VINis applied to the PROM1 and a current flows through a resistance R4. The current flowing through the resistance R4 becomes greater than that when it is inserted into the socket normally, so the plus terminal of a comparator 6 has a lower level than that of the minus terminal, and the output of the comparator 6 goes down to a low level, so that an LED gives a warning by turning on. For the writing to or reading from the PROM1, a voltage application signal 10 is held at a high level only when an overcurrent detection signal 8 is at a high level. This signal is inverted by an inverter 9 to turn off a Q1, and an operating voltage Vout selected through resistances R1-R2 is applied to the power terminal of the PROM1.
