Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve optical recording with a high S/N ratio by performing irradiation with light while establishing a magnetic field at the light-irradiated part of the thin-film layer of a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:An electromagnet 6 using a soft magnetic material as a magnetic core is fixed to a lens 6 along the semiarc of an objective lens 4. The tip of the magnetic core of the electromagnet 6 is bent toward the point where luminous flux transmitted through the lens 4 focuses on a recording medium 5 so that magnetic lines of force converge. ADjusting a current flowed through a coil 7 optimizes the intensity of the magnetic field. Thus, shapes of holes or recess parts of a thin-film layer for recording are put in order, thereby achieving optical recording of high quality with a high S/N ratio.
