Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively separate and remove inorganic solids from urban refuges by a method in which urban refuges are slurried with water and then subjected to a settling separation treatment under slow stirring conditions.
CONSTITUTION: Urban refuges containing garbage, paper, plastics, metals, gravel, porcelain pieces, etc., are mixed with water to a slurry of 3W15wt% solid content. Then, the slurry is charged into a settling separation tank 12 provided with a ribbon shaped stirring blade 16 capable of producing an ascending flow, during which slow stirring is made by setting the turning speed of the stirring blade 16 in such a way that the turning angular velocity in the horizontal direction of the slurry on the tank wall side becomes 0.005W1.5 rad/sec for settling and separating the inorganic solids. The most preferred type of the stirring blade 16 is ribbon type in case where thick slurry of solid content of 7wt% or more is treated particularly.
