- Preparation Of Compounds By Using Micro-Organisms (AREA)
Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the optically active L-isomer of the titled compound, in high efficiency, by treating isobutyric acid or methacrylic acid with microorganisms capable of converting said acid to L(+)-β-hydroxyisobutyric acid.
CONSTITUTION: Isobutyric acid or methacrylic acid is converted to L(+)-β-hy- droxyisobutyric acid by culturing microorganisms in a conventional medium con- taining isobutyric acid or methacrylic acid at 4.0W9.5 pH and 20W40°C, or by culturing in a conventional medium and containing the obtained microbial cells with the raw material acid in the presence of a small amount of glucose. The resultant L(+)-β-hydroxyisobutyric acid can by separated by adjusting the pH of the liquid to 2.5, saturating the liquid with ammonium sulfate, extracting the objective com- pound with ethylacetate, and distilling in vacuum. The microorganism is selected from yeasts such as Bullera genus, Candida genus, etc., actinomycetes such as Streptomyces genus, molds such as Mucor genus, bacteria such as Bacillus genus.
