Abstract

PURPOSE:To know the number of messages easily by a store and forward exchange system by connecting a monitor terminal to a node and by outputting the number of messages addressed to an optional subscriber or its control information in response to an enquiry. CONSTITUTION:To know the number of messages stored in a disk device 4 while messages 8 and 9 are outputted from the magnetic disk device 4 to a subscriber's terminal 6 through a node 2, an enquiry command 10 is inputted from the monitor terminal 7 to the node 2 and then while the outputting of the messages is stopped, a file search request 12 for knowing a message addressed to the subscriber's terminal 6 is outputted to the disk device 4; and a search result 13 is outputted to the minitor terminal 7 and then a message output restart request 14 is outputted. On receiving the restart request 14, the disk device 4 outputs messages 15 and 16 to the subscriber's terminal 6. On receiving the search result 13, the monitor terminal 7 outputs the stored number of messages, addressed to the subscriber's terminal 6, from the disk device 4.
