Abstract

PURPOSE: A rubber composition, obtained by incorporating a specific amount of a conjugated diene polymer or copolymer modified with a metallic salt of a carboxylic acid with a diene rubber, having remarkably improved mechanical properties of a vulcanized rubber, and suitable for an automotive tire, etc.
CONSTITUTION: (i) A liquid conjugated diene polymer or a copolymer, preferably liquid polybutadiene, is modified with (ii) an α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid (anhydride), preferably maleic anhydride, to give an acid value of 2W300, and 10W100% carboxylic acid part is converted into a metallic salt, preferably Zn salt, to prepare (A) a conjugated diene polymer or copolymer modified with metallic salt of the carboxylic acid. 4W40pts.wt. resultant component (A) is then incorporated with (B) 100pts.wt. diene rubber, preferably natural rubber, to give the aimed composition. The molecular weight of the component (i) is preferably 700W25,000.
