PURPOSE: To contrive to enhance the heat-exchanging efficiency by a method wherein an alliptic tube is used at a core part and the peripheral edge of each hole of plate fins through which the tube is passed is formed into the shape of a double collar, in a solderless-type heat exchanger used for an automotive radiaor or the like.
CONSTITUTION: The front edge part of a collar part 2c of the plate fin 2 is folded to the inside to form a folded part 2f so that the tip end B of the folded part 2f is projected downward below the plane of the fin 2. As a result, at the contacting surface after expanding the elliptical tube 1 inserted into the collar parts 2c of fins 2, the highest surface pressure from the outside surface of the tube 1 at the time of tube expanding is exerted on the plate thickness part of the plate fin 2 through a middle point C of the folded part 2f of the fin 2. Accordingly, the outside surface of the tube 1 and the inside surfaces of the collar parts of the fins 2 can be maintained in the condition of being closely contacted to each other by an appropriate surface pressure, and the heat-radiating performance can be enhanced.
