Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to improve the efficiency of a driving motor, by a method wherein the number of poles of a driving induction motor whose poles can be selected in number is changed over to such a number that the motor can be optimumly operated according to the speed of the vehicle and the applied voltage and current of the motor. CONSTITUTION:Provided are a driving induction motor 4 whose poles can be selected in number, speed detectors 8, 16, voltae detectors 6, 14 and current detectors 7, 15. Moreover provided are a pole number memory to store the relationship between the vehicle speed and the applied voltage and current of the motor 4, and such a number of poles of the motor 4 that it can be optimumly operated, a pole number command device 17 to issue a command about said number of poles and a pole number changeover device 9 to change over the number of poles according to the command. Then, for example, detection values are converted into digital amounts in the abovementioned detectors respectively and operationally processed in a CPU 11 according to a given program, and on the basis of the results, the number of poles in changed over, and the voltage, current and frequency patterns for an inverter 3 are generated.
