CONSTITUTION:A special symbol, indicating the leftmost position of a read row, printed on the 1st row and 1st column is read and stored in a leftmost address part 4; and the symbol information is sent as a space code to a row memory 5 and the character code of the row memory 5 and the contents of a tab memory 6 are transferred to a tab conversion part 7. When the character code is the space code, the tab conversion part 7 sets its column position to C1 and the column position of the 1st character, which is not the space code any more, to C2 and when >=2 space codes continue, C2-C1>=2 holds, thereby converting the space code SC into a tab code TC. Consequently, excessive space codes in output data are eliminated to improve the efficiency of editing operation on a document drawing device side.
