Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform the magnetic powder flaw detection with the proper defect detecting sensitivity at all times, by detecting the concentration of magnetic powder in the form of the intensity of light sent from a pattern of magnetic powder formed at the standard defect and then carrying out the control of concentration. CONSTITUTION:An object to be inspected receives the spray of the fluorescent photomagnetic powder liquid M from a spraying device 1 while it is shifted to be collected into a tank 2 and is then sent back to the device 1 from a pump 3 via a T- shaped tube 4. A standard test piece 11 contains an electromagnet 13 in a cylinder 12 made of synthetic resin, and a low carbon steel bar 14 having a standard defect 15 is fixed between the magnetic electrodes. The piece 11 receives the spray of a material similar to the liquid M of the device 1 from a spraying device 5, and accordingly a magnetic powder pattern 16 is formed to the defect 15. The pattern 16 emits light by the irradiation of a light 21, and this light intensity is detected by a detector 23. The pattern 16 is then sent to a control circuit 24. Then a valve 6 is actuated when the concentration becomes less than the set value. As a result, the magnetic powder liquid of high concentration is supplied into a tank 2 from a tank 7 via a tube 8. Thus the concentration is controlled.
