Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent side slipping at the time of making a turn regardless of driving speed by providing the same rudder angle to both outer and inner wheels for a high speed turning (small rudder angle) and a larger rudder angle to the outer wheel than the inner wheel for a low speed turning (large rudder angle).
CONSTITUTION: Within a steering gear box 2, a pinion 4 which is installed at the end of a steering shaft 3 is rotatably supported, and geared to this pinion 4 is a pair of rack bars 6, 7, one for the feft wheel and another for right wheel, with semicircle cross section insert-fitted into a rack housing with free sliding pertted. Each rack bar 6, 7 is connected to the left and right wheels A1, A2 through steering links 13, 14. Each rack 15, 16 of rack bars 6, 7 is designed so that the pitch is smaller at the other side of the wheel connecting side than the rest. Accordingly, relartion between inner and outer rudder angle of wheels A1, A2 is adjusted in conformance to the steering angle and thus, the expected results are achieved.
