Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a Q-switching laser device the output thereof can be controlled by a simple operation as well as to stabilize its output by a method wherein a resonator in which a roof prism facing a fixed prism is installed. CONSTITUTION:A prism 11 is of the form combining a roof prism 11C having the total reflection planes 11A and 11B which are vertical to each other with a rectangular prism 11F having a plane 11D orthogonal to a ridgeline 11E, and the plane of polarization of incident light almost coincide with that of the reflection light. Furthermore, a roof prism 12 is installed so that its ridgeline 12A and the ridgeline 11A are orthogonal to each other, and a laser medium 13, a beam splitting polariscope 14 and a Q-switching element 15 are arranged between the two prisms. A laser incident light beam 16 is totally reflected four times inside the prism 11, and when an incident angle is 45 deg. against the total reflection plane, the resonator is equivalent to a resonator of a parallel plane mirror if the refractive index is about 1.5. A quantum efficiency of a laser output 17 can be easily adjusted by an angle between the ridgeline 12A of the prism and the plane of polarization 14A of polariscope 14 or a refractive index of prism 12, therefore a fine angle change can be easily made to gain a stable output, and the output can be ontrolled by the rotation of a prism.
