Abstract

PURPOSE:To recognized a spreading extent of quenching of a superconductor coil with an exciter which can regulate the coil current, by a method wherein the values related to the resistance produced in the coil are calculated every time by signals which correspond respectively to a coil voltage, a coil current and a deviation of the coil current. CONSTITUTION:A thyristor converter 3 is connected to an exciting winding 2 which composes a superconductor coil which is an observed object of a synchronous generator 1. And the converter 3 is controlled by a controller 4 which includes an automatic voltage regulator and the output voltage of the generator 1 is kept at a prescribed value by a prescribed field current supplied to the coil 2 from the converter 3. Then in order to observe these equipments an observing system which consists of a field voltage detector 5, a field current detector 6, a field current deviation detector 7, a computer which calculates the resistance produced in the coil, an internal coil resistance indicator 9 and a failure discriminator 10 is provided and a pulse shift instruction signal is supplied to the controller 4 in order to force the converter 3 to operate within an invertor region. With above method occurrence and spreading of partial quenching can be recognized from outside of the coil.
