Abstract
PURPOSE:To assure a sufficient characteristics even for the bending characteristics, by controlling the Young's modulus of the plastic pipe of a reinforced optical fiber cord to a small value. CONSTITUTION:A reinforced optical fiber cord is composed of, in successive order from the center to the outside, an optical fiber core 1, a plastic pipe 2, a tension resisting fiber 3, and a plastic cover 4. The inner diameter di and the outer diameter do of the plastic pipe 2 are approx. 1.5mm. and 2mm., respectively, and the wall thickness is 0.25mm.. The Young's modulus of the plastic pipe 2 is regulated to <=100kg/mm.<2>. With such arrangement, the optical fiber will not be broken and a sufficient characteristics can be assured even for the bending characteristics.
