Abstract

A spraying box, in particular for use in a paint spray device, is provided in which, during operation, air contaminated with oversprayed particles or droplets is sucked from a spraying region into a scrubbing chamber (13), at high velocity, over the free surface (15) of a liquid scrubbing agent contained in a tank (11). In this process, the air entrains the liquid scrubbing agent. The oversprayed particles or droplets are scrubbed in the scrubbing chamber (13) by the air stream, by means of the entrained scrubbing agent, and the scrubbed air emerges from the spraying box. The scrubbing agent containing the contaminants is fed back to the tank (11) in which the contaminants are deposited in the form of a slurry. The distribution plate (36, 36a) of the scrubbing chamber (13), which distribution plate (36, 36a) the scrubbing agent stream entrained by the air first encounters when entering the chamber during operation is defined by a first and a second flat surface which are arranged extending essentially at right angles to one another. Their intersection line extends horizontally and in the direction of the width of the spraying box. The first lowermost surface (36) extends from below the scrubbing agent level of the tank (11) rearwards and upwards and the second topmost surface (36a) thus extends upwards and forwards. <IMAGE>
