Abstract
PURPOSE:To ensure the accurate recognition of a small character, by judging the character from the relation between the position of the character and its left adjacent character. CONSTITUTION:The character information received a photoelectric conversion is stored in a character buffer 1 and then supplied to a position detector 2 and a feature extracting part 4. The output data of the detector 2 is supplied to memories 3 and 9; and the data of the memory 3 is supplied to the part 4. While the data of the memory 9 is used for recognition of small characters such as DAKUTEN (voiced dot), semi-DAKUTEN, etc. The data extracted through the part 4 is stored in the memory 5 to be compared with a pattern in a dictionary at a judging part 6. The pattern selected through the comparison is supplied to an editing part 10 via a memory 11. For a small character, a relative information check indication is given to the pattern within the dictionary. The final decision is given at the part 10 based on the data of the memory 9 as well as the relation between the position of the relevant character and its left adjacent character.
