Abstract

PURPOSE: The titled pulp that consists of polyester fibrils that are oriented and have a special shape, thus being suitably used to make low-density paper for filtration and separation materials and to make high-density paper required to be heat resistant.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of a linear aromatic polyester, preferably polyethylene terephthalate and an organic compound that is incompatible with the polyester and soluble in an alkaline solution is melt spun. Then, the fibers are drawn, cut, treated with an alkaline solution and beaten to produce the objective pulp consisting of fibrils which have oriented crystalline structure, preferably 25% or higher crystallinity, irregularly roughened surface on the cross section and are partially branched and 50W700cc in water leakiness. The average diameter of the above fibrils is preferably 10μm or less and the dispersion is 0.7 or less.
