Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure the speed and the direction even in turbulent flow, by suspending fine grains in fluid, varying the intensity of light from a light source during the exposing time of photographing, and discriminating the starting and terminating points of the traces of the suspended fine grains. CONSTITUTION:The light 12 from the light source 11 is transmitted, through a transmitted light intensity modifier 16, expanded to form a plane shape by a lens 13, and illuminates a flowing place to be measured. The fine grains are suspended in the flowing place, and the flow traces of the grains are photographed by a cemera 15. When the light intensity at the vicinity of the end of exposure is increased than that at the start of the exposure by modifying the intensity of the illuminating light in the exposing time of the camera, the flow trace of the terminating point is photographed more brightly than that at the starting point. Thus the speed and the direction can be measured at the same time, and the measurement can be performed even in the turbulent flow.
