Abstract

PURPOSE:To classify white blood corpuscles automatically by utilizing the difference in optical absorbance of cells foreign matters on the sample and employing a pattern recognition technology. CONSTITUTION:A one dimension image sensor 7 is provided in an optical microscope 1 as a photoelectric conversion means. The light transmitted through a density image on the sample gives an imagery on a sensor surface. The output of each photoelectric conversion element in the sensor 7 is converted into a pulse signal which is proportional to the amount of light by a current voltage converter 8. The pulse is introduced to a peak value holding circuit 13 through an amplifier 9, a peak holding circuit 10, a sample holding circuit 11, and a filter 12. The maximum value of the density image on the sample is sensed. The foreign matters and the white blood corpuscles are discriminated in comparators 17a and 18a. The integrated voltage obtained by an integrator 38 is compared with a reference voltage 39 in a comparator 40, and the white blood corpuscle sensing signal is obtained. In performing said integration, high reference concentration can be established with respect to the reduction of the amount of light at both ends of the image sensor, sensing probability of the white blood corpuscles becomes high, and accuracy is improved.
