PURPOSE:To increase the charge retentivity as an image forming member for electrophotography and to improve the optically responding properties by interposing a nonphotoconductive amorphous intermediate layer between the photoconductive layer made of amorphous silicon contg. halogen and the support. CONSTITUTION:An intermediate layer 202 made of nonphotoconductive amorphous material a-SixC1-x consisting of Si and C atoms is interposed between a support 201 and a photoconductive layer 203 made of amorphous sioicon contg. halogen. The layer 202 effectively inhibits a carrier from flowing into the layer 203 from the support 201 side and easily passes a photocarrier which is produced in the layer 203 by irradiating electromagnetic waves and moves toward the support 201 from the layer 203 side to the support 201 side.
