Abstract

PURPOSE:To observe components of coordinates of a relative displacement vector of the other spot when one spot is taken as a reference, by a method wherein ultrasonic wave transmitting and receiving devices, etc., are installed at a plurality of spots set on the bottom of the sea, and distances between respective two spots and the depths of water at several spots are measured. CONSTITUTION:Observing devices 20 are installed on the bottom of the sea 10, and they are connected each other using cables 25-29. One end of the cable 29 is terminated at the observing devices 20, and one end of the cable 25 is connected to a processing device 6 installed on the land 5. In the observing devices 20, a pulse from the processing device 6 is inputted via the cable 25 to a hybrid circuit 161, and one component of the pulse is inputted to the cable 26, further the other component is inputted through a hybrid circuit 162 and an amplifier 17 to an ultrasonic wave transmitter 121 and a velocimeter 14. Outputs from the velocimeter 14, an ultrasonic wave receiver 131 and a water-pressure gate 15 are frequency-multiplexed, transmitted to the processing device 6 and demodulated there, thereby allowing the depths of water at several spots 20 and distances between respective spots to be obtained. And, by taking one spot as a reference, components of coordinates of a relative displacement vector at the other spot is calculated and indicated.
