Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide excellent respondence and durability, by using metallic oxide powder, whose grain diameter is within a prescribed range, of a heat-resistant metal oxide coating formed on the surface of an electrode layer on the exhaust gas side. CONSTITUTION:A stable zirconia sintered body, to which 5-10mol% of Y2O3 is added, is used as an oxygen ion conductive solid electrolyte 1, and this is formed into a bottomed tube-like shape, and Pt electrode layers 2a and 2b are formed on inside and outside circumferential surfaces of this solid electrolyte 1 by thermal decomposition process. Onto the electrode layer 2a, which is on the exhaust gas side, of the Pt electrode layers, MgO-Al2O3 spinel powder composed of grains of a prescribed diameter is applied by a plasma flame coating device to form a coating 3. The powder to be used for forming this coating 3 is to have such a characteristic that more than 90wt% of total grain diameter component as the metallic oxide powder stay within a range of 20-35mum in diameter and that when cumulative frequency distribution curve of the power is expressed by wt% of cumulative residual component, the ratio between 95% of cumulative residual component and 5% of grain diameter becomes less than 2.
