Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide excellent respondence and durability, by setting to a prescribed range porosity and the pore distribution in a heat-resistance metal oxide coating formed on the surface of an exhaust gas side electrode layer. CONSTITUTION:A stable zirconia sintered body, to which 5-10mol% of Y2O3 is added, is used as an oxygen ion conductive solid electrolyte 1, and this is formed into a bottomed tube-like shape, and Pt electrode layers 2a and 2b are formed on inside and outside circumferential surfaces of this solid electrolyte 1 by thermal decomposition process. These Pt electrode layers 2a and 2b are porous and have thicknesses ranging 3mum-4mum. MgO-Al2O3 spinel powder is applied by a plasma flame coating device onto the electrode layer 2a, which is on the exhaust gas side, of the Pt electrode layers, and this flame coating application is conducted in such a manner as to appropriately adjust condition and method, etc. of the flame coating so as to form a coating 3 of a prescribed porosity rate and pore distribution. The porosity is to range 2.5%-10%, and it is desirable that of gas permeable pores existing in the coating, the maximum diameter is 5mum and distribution of pores ranging 1mum-3mum in diameter is more than 80%.
