Abstract

PURPOSE: To let the curve sharply change near theoretical air-fuel ratio λ = 1, i.e., improve the responsiveness of electromotive characteristics by coating a cataystic metal solution on the surface of sintered body composed of solid electroyte, recuding the same at low temperature then baking the same at high temperature.
CONSTITUTION: A Pt salt solution having catalytic action to become an electrode is coated on the outside and inside surfaces of a sintered body 9 composed of oxygen ion conductive solid electrolyte such as stabilized ZrO2 and is reduced in a range from preferably ordinary temperature up to 120°C in H2. The Pt deposited through reduction is baked preferably in reducing atmosphere of 500 to 1000°C, whereby electrodes 10, 11 are constituted. This causes the Pt to deposit in even fine particle from and lets the thermal decomposition times, Pt quantity and electrode thickness necessary for the electric resistance between the points A, B on the electrode 10 become 100Ω or under. The electrode thickness requires a range of 0.3 to 5μ and is preferably 0.5 to 1μ.
