Abstract

PURPOSE:To make an infrared ray absorption type humidity measuring device at a lower cost without use of a costly solid infrared ray detector and a narrow band filter by employing an optical sound cell for the infrared ray detector. CONSTITUTION:An infrared ray having a wide length distribution from an infrared ray source 2 enters a window 5 of a sample cell 4 through a chopper 3. When H2O is not present in the sample cell 4, it does not absorb any of infrared rays. After the infrared rays pass a low pass filter 13, the ones of 2.7mu range are absorbed with an optical sound cell 10 filled with CO2 at a high concentration and an electric output is indicated on a meter 9 corresponding to CO2 absorbed energy of 2.7mu range. On the other hand, when H2O is present in the sample cell 4, the infrared rays of 2.7mu range are absorbed in the sample cell 4 depending on the concentration of H2O by a Lanbert's and Bell's law to reduce the electric output. This enables the measurement of humidity with an inexpensive equipment.
