Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce the title mother alloy which is stable in quality and exceedingly able to obtain fine crystal grains by following method in which metallic Ti, B compound and Na compound are added into molten Al, and said molten Al is refined under liquidus temp. of TiAl3 and then is cast into a mold.
CONSTITUTION: Metallic Ti, B compound and Na compound are added into molten Al, and then the molten Al is refined under the liquidus temp. T°C of TiAl3 shown by a formula I ([Ti], [B] indicate content percentages of Ti and B in the molten metal), while forced flow is being given said molten Al. This liquidus temp. T°C indicates a boundary temp. between a refining temp domain crystallizing an acicular TiAl3 and a refining temp. domain making a massive crystallized TiAl3. Next, this molten metal is poured into a mold, while the forced flow is being given the molten metal, and then it is solidified at a cooling rate above 20°C/min. Thereby, the mother alloy which contains 4W6% Ti and 0.6W1.2% B and is used to obtain fine crystal grain is produced. This mother alloy may be used to obtain fine crystal grain in Al or Al alloys.
