Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the shade of a white belt from appearing on an original by exercising control over the operation of a blanck exposing means so that illumination light strikes even a photoreceptor region which corresponds to the prescribed-width region of the original at its front edge which is scanned by an original scanning means. CONSTITUTION:With a copy switch ON, a photoreceptor 1 starts turning before mirrors 16 and 17 are actuated, and the means of dischargers 2, 3 and 6, a lamp 4, and a developing device 5 also starts operation, but a solenoid 28 is still not energized, so the photoreceptor 1 is exposed to light from a lamp 4 as a blank through a reflecting plate 24. Although the blank exposure normally ends when the mirrors 16 and 17 reach positions where the front edge O' of an original is scanned, the solenoid 28 is still not energized and at a position a prescribed distance ahead of the said position, a switch is operated to engergize the solenoid 28; and then the reflecting plate 24 is turned to a broken-line position and the blank exposure is changed over to slit exposure.
