CONSTITUTION:A negative electrode 2 made of Zn is placed in a catholyte 1 containing, for example, Zn<2+>, while a positive electrode 4 made of a Pt-plated Ti plate is placed in an anolyte 3 containing, for example, 2Br<->. A separator 5, which conducts ions without making the catholyte 1 and the anolyte to be mixed, is provided between the negative and the positive electrodes 2 and 4, thereby a metal- halogen battery being constituted. The catholyte 1 and the anolyte 3 each is supplied from a storage tank. The separator 5 is fixed to a stage 60 of a container filled with the catholyte 3, so that the effective area of the separator 5 and the positive plate 4 are smaller than that of the negative plate 2.
