Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance the reliability of flame extinguishing operation at the time of, for instance, occurrence of an earthquake, overcoming such difficulties as shortage of wick retracting force accumulated in a wick retracting spring and over- winding of the wick reracting spring in a wick retracting mechanism for a liquid fuel combusting apparatus of the type in which spring force is accumulated in the wick retracting spring when lifting the wick by turning a wick moving shaft.
CONSTITUTION: When a shaft 10 is turned clockwise by a knob 32 in starting use of a liquid fuel combusting apparatus, a drive pin 28 fixed to the shaft 10 is urged onto one side of a universal pin 27, so that a spring case 21 is turned clockwise and a wick retracting torque is accumulated in a wick retracting spring 22. Resultant turning of a pinion 9 causes a wick holder 6 to turn by the aid of a rack 7 disposed at an outer peripheral portion of the wick holder 6, so that a wick 4 is lifted to the upper-limit position. Here, if engagement of an actuator lever 29 of an earthquake- sensitive means with a ratchet plate 24 is removed during operation of the combusting apparatus when the wick 4 is lifted upward, the spring case 21 is turned quickly in a counterclockwise direction by the force accumulated in the spring 22, and the drive pin 28 is turned by the universal pin 27, so that the wick 4 is moved down by the shaft 10.
