PURPOSE:To facilitate jam processing and maintenance inspection by opening a device in two stages through providing the freely rotatable cover member of an original carriage path and by providing a unit, which includes an original holding durm, also rotatably. CONSTITUTION:The upper cover 24 of an original carriage path is provided freely rotatably around the pin 26 of a side plate 27, and a unit including an original holding drum 4 is also provided rotatably around the shaft 29 of a side plate 28. In this constitution, if a jam occurs at the upper part of a device, the cover 24 is lifted as shown by an arrow D to handle the jam. When a jam occurs at the lower part, or when the transparent glass of the lower part is to be cleaned, a handle 33 is turned as shown by an arrow G to unlock a lock pawl 34, and the drum 4 turns by a spring 30 in a direction E to handle the jam or to perform cleaning. Thus, the device is opened in two stages, so jam processing and maintenance inspection are facilitated very easily.
