Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the overheating of a printing head by lowering the printing speed as the number of dots increases detecting the number to be printed from a dot pattern in a specified amount. CONSTITUTION:A counter 5 reads out dot pattern data in serial from an interface register 1 to count the number of dots, for example, in the logic ''1'' contained in the dot pattern data. A decoder 6 outputs signals from the section 1 to the section 5 corresponding to the counted value of the counter 5. Only the driving duty of a printing wire changes leaving the printing pitch unchanged regardless of variations in the moving speed of the printing head 4. When the reduction in the logical ''1'' in the dot pattern data for each line indicates a likely drop in the heat generated by the printing head 4, the dot pattern can be printed at a high speed by raising the printing speed.
