Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the generation of a difference between surface properties of front and underside of a rolled strip, by offsetting the horizontal positions of upper and lower work rolls, when a strip is rolled by upper and lower work rolls rotated at different circumferential roll speeds.
CONSTITUTION: An upper work roll 12 and a lower work roll 14 are respectively rotated at different circumferential speeds v1, v2, for rolling a strip 10; hereupon, the center of the lower work roll 14 is offsetted by a distance δ toward the strip's feed-in side. Or otherwise, on the contrary to that, the lower work roll 14 is similary offset to the strip's run-out side, and the rolling work is practiced under this condition. In general, at a rolling method with different circumferential roll speeds, if v1>v2, the friction factors μ1, μ2 between the strip 10 and the upper and lower work rolls 12, 14 are in a relation μ12; as an effect of these different friction factors, the luster, roughness, etc., of a strip 10 differ between the front and underside so that its surface property becomes declined; however, by offsetting the positions of work rolls 12, 14, the friction factors μ1 and μ2 become almost equal, so that the difference between the surface properties of the strip's front and underside is eliminated.
