Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the current balance charasteristics when GTO thyristors are connected together in parallel, by a method wherein GTO thyristors are joined together through bridge connection with balancer reactors being added to them. CONSTITUTION:In a D.C.-A.C. power converter provided with an inverter circuit in which GTO thyristors have been connected together in parallel, the GTO thyristors 6a, 7a, 7b are joined together through bridge connection, and a balancer reactor 16 equipped with a center tap is inserted in between the output terminals of a bridge circuit. AC power is obtained from the tap of the reactor 16, while the energy of the reactor 16 when the GTO thyristor is turned OFF is allowed to discharge to a load via diodes 8aL, 8bL, 8aR, 8bR for wheeling. By so doing, the current balance characteristics when the GOT thyristors have been connected together in parallel are improved. In addition, since the excessive energy of the balancer reactor can be discharged on the load side, the loss in the circuit can be reduced.
