Abstract

PURPOSE:To automatically control the temp. of a fixation device in such a way as to attain an optimum fixaton temp. for paper used by utilizing the fact that the quantity of transmitted light of the paper of the same quality changes according to the thickness of the paper. CONSTITUTION:Paper 2 fed from a feeding part of an electrophotographic copier passes between a luminous body 4 and a photosensitive element 6. At this time, the quantity of transmitted light of the paper of the same quality changes with thickness and the paper thickness and the quantity of transmitted light are roughly in a relation of inverse proportion. A resistor 8 is connected in series to the element 6, and since the quantity of transmitted light arriving at a photoreceptor 6 decreases as the thickness of the paper 2 increases, the internal resistance of the element 6 increases and the terminal voltage of the resistor 8 decreases. The terminal voltage of the resistor 8 is applied to Zener diodes 18, 20, 22 which are switching means, and the Zener voltages of the diodes 18, 20, 22 are respectively varied so as to permit discrimination of the thickness of the paper depending upon the difference in the quantity of transmitted light, whereby a temp. control circuit 40 is controlled.
