Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent malfunction of high voltage breaker by delivering very little amount of the electrically charged paint to an unpainted part, and at the same time, by setting the potential difference between the electrically charged paint and the material to be painted to a low level, when car body or the like are painted by an electrostatic method.

CONSTITUTION: In case when a car body 1 is painted by an electrostatic painting method while the car body is moved in front of the painting machine, 90kV high potential difference is applied between the electrostatic paint and the body 1 and the delivered amount of the elctrically charged paint from the painting machine is increased, and usual electrostatic painting is executed, when the part to be painted is positioned just front of the painting machine. When the parts 1a, 1b of the body 1 for which painting is not required are moved in front of the painting machine, the potential difference is reduced to about 60kV and the delivering amount of the electrically charged paint is also reduced. When this method is applied, unless foreign matters such as human body enter the high voltage atmosphere during the course of the electrostatic painting from the left side end to the right side end of the car body, no variance of large current occurs and interruption of the painting caused by malfunction of the high voltage breaker is prevented.
