Abstract

PURPOSE:To capture fine pressure variation highly accurately, by splitting signal light into two deflected components by a compound deflecting prism, and converting them to electrical signals, and sensing the pressure. CONSTITUTION:The signal light for measurement is emitted from a light source 1 comprising a laser diode, and the light is subjected to the double refraction by an optical crystal 5 and deflected in an elliptical shape.Rod lenses 7 are arranged at specified locations so as to receive the light beams which are split into two deflected components which form a right angle to each other in the compound deflecting prism 6 and emitted therefrom. The locational relationship between each of a light deflecting device 4, the optical crystal 5, and the compound deflecting prism 6 and the length of the optical crystal 5 are determined so as to satisfy the following conditions: in the case pressure is not applied on the optical crystal 5, the deflected component A from the compound deflecting prism 6 is 100% and the other deflected component B is 50%: and in the case the optical crystal 5 is under the maximum pressure load condition, the deflected component A is 50% and the deflected component B is 100%. The polarization plane of the laser light passed the optical crystal 5 is sensed as the optical amount of 1-100% through each rod lens 7, and the pressure is displayed through a display circuit 10.
