Abstract
PURPOSE:To ensure that parts do not suffer any damage when falling and to prevent the cooling rate of the parts from being lowered due to formation of a steam film, by a method wherein the parts heated in a heating furnace are exposed to a spray of water before they fall into a quenching water tank. CONSTITUTION:The parts, for example, small articles such as screws heated in the heating furnace 2 are conveyed by a mesh belt conveyor 5, then they are permitted to fall naturally from the end of the conveyor onto a chute 11. In this case, water in the quenching water tank 3 is sprayed from a spraying nozzle 13 onto the chute 11 by a pump 14. As a result, the collision of the parts against the chute 11 is moderated, so that the parts slide down along the slanted surface of the chute 11 and enter the tank 3. In addition, although steam films are formed on the surfaces of the parts when they are sprayed with large amounts of water, the steam films are immediately washed away by the spray so that the steam films are not adhered to the parts. The parts are then immersed into the quenching water stored in the tank 3, resulting in the predetermined quenching.
