Abstract

A continuous cleaning installation for pieces of metal covered with oil comprises a vat filled with a cleaning fluid such as a mixt. of water and a detergent, at 40-80 degrees C, with an endless open mesh belt having a submerged horizontal section followed by an inclined section emerging from the liq. The metal pieces on the horizontal section are carried between batteries of nozzles on each side whilst the ascending section of the belt carries them between further batteries of nozzles above and below, fed in common with the first nozzles by a pump feeding the fluid from the vat. An oil separator draws off the upper layer of fluid in the vat and recirculates it after the oil has been removed. The appts. is effective when the metal pieces are covered with a thick layer of oil, and works continuously without stoppages for changing the cleaning fluid.
