Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for a cationic polymer in high purity and in high yield, by reacing an acrylic acid or its ester with double or more mole dialkylaminoalkylamine, followed by hydrolysis.
CONSTITUTION: An acrylic acid shown by the formula I (R1 is H or 1W3C alkyl) or an acrylic ester is reacted with double or more mole dialklaminoalkylamine shown by the formula II (R2 and R3 are 1W3C alkyl; n is an integer of 2W5), to give a compound shown by the formula III, which is decomposed at 150W300°C under heating, and only an N-(dialkyl aminoalkyl)acrylamide shown by the formula IV, a decomposition product under heating, is obtained in extremely high yield by a condenser which is simultaneously heated.
EFFECT: The excess addition of the dialkylaminoalkylamine carries out simultaneously amidation and protection of vinyl group, and prevents the polymerization and size reactions during the reaction.
