Abstract
PURPOSE: A mixture of hydrocarbons of 4 carbon atoms containing isobutene is hydrated to separate t-butyl alcohol (TBA), subsequently subjected to low-grade polymerization and separation, thus producing n-butene of extremely low content of isobutene with consumption of less energy by no use of multi-step reactions and complicated processes.
CONSTITUTION: The isobutene in a 4-carbon-atom hydrocarbon mixture is hydrated to tert-butyl alcohol, which is removed. Then, the remaining isobutene is polymerized by bringing the mixture into contact with a microporous cationic exchange resin to form a low-polymer of isobutene, which is removed, thus preparing high- purity n-butene. In this process, the loss of n-butene is less and the economic efficiency is high. The hydration is effected using a strong solid acid catalyst such as a cationic ion exchange resin at 30W150°C and the polymerization is conducted at 60W150°C.
