Abstract

Isobutene in a hydrocarbon mixture 2 is converted to tertiary butanol (TBA) by reaction with water 3 to produce a mixture 5 and 5' from which TBA is separated and thereafter dehydrated to regenerate the isobutene 18. The process is carried out continuously using cation exchange resin catalysts in the hydration and dehydration steps. The Figures illustrate procedures for treating separating and treating the mixture produced in the hydration and dehydration steps 1 (and 1') and 10. <IMAGE>
